Heading into the Sydney CBD to buy or sell currency may be very different to what you expect.

Many of the places to exchange currency closed in the last couple of years. The major banks no longer offer any currency exchange.

We visited over a dozen money exchange locations across the Sydney CBD and compared their fees and services to find the best currency exchange rates.

  1. S Money has the best currency exchange rates and offer both store collection or home delivery.
  2. United Currency Exchange has the very good rates but it's hard to find
  3. Crown Currency and Travel Money Oz have the most convenient stores in the middle of the city but their rates are not as sharp
  4. Travelex has the most stock on hand, particularly for less common currencies
  5. Smaller stores in Haymarket have the best deals when it comes to selling currency
